Frequently Asked Questions

Why speak to a therapist?

Because your mental health is just as important as your physical health! Just like any other professional that you seek services from, we are here to make life more manageable when it becomes overwhelming. Regardless of what you’re experiencing, you don’t have to deal with it alone.

What does it mean to have your "in-training" license?

An in-training license means that we have graduated from an accredited university masters program, and passed the National Counselors Exam. We are being supervised by Alicia Fleishmann, LPC, CSAC, ICS, CCM, PMH-C.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. AND there are a few exceptions in place to ensure your safety and protect vulnerable populations.

As outlined under Wisconsin Statue 51.30(4)(C) exceptions to confidentiality include:

  • If you are in imminent danger to yourself or others
  • When clinical judgment assesses such action is necessary to protect the safety or welfare of a client or another person
  • Lawful order of a court record
  • Suspected or confirmed child or elder abuse or neglect is reported
  • To a medical professional in a bonafide emergency
  • Information about a crime committed by a patient of Beacon Counseling, LLC, or against any person who works for Beacon Counseling, LLC, or about any threat to commit such a crime.

Do you provide in person and online therapy?

Yes!

Why is insurance not accepted?

Partnering with insurance companies can be complicated, and there is no guarantee that your insurance will pay for your treatment. Self-pay comes with a lot of benefits: insurance will not have access to your session notes, you have more freedom when it comes to session frequency, and our price per session is lower. In addition, you don’t have to worry about whether or not we will take your insurance!

In addition, as LPC-ITs, and in order to comply with ethical considerations, Beacon Counseling has elected not to pursue insurance paneling at this time.

Upon request, we can send our client an invoice/receipt to be reimbursed through an HSA or FSA plan (eligibility dependent).

What are the differences between the types of therapies offered?

Individual Therapy is the traditional one-on-one therapy setting. This could include, but is not limited to, primary clients and or primary client partners and family members.

Group Counseling is a small group of 6-8 people that come together to share their experiences and relate to one another. This is considered a process group.

Group Psychoeducation is a small group (6-8 people) setting that consists of educative material such as skill development.

Experiential Therapy can be group based or individual. This type of therapy takes place in a non-office setting and usually encourages physical movement or mindfulness-based activities. This could include, but is not limited to, adventure therapy, animal-assisted therapy, or art therapy.

Can you really help me?

Together, we can try!

There are benefits and risks associated with therapeutic services. While collaborative and frequent check-ins are exercised in order to maintain your treatment goals, no results can be guaranteed or assured.

How many therapy sessions do I need?

It depends on the treatment plan we create together. Treatment can be variable and range from multiple times per week to around once per month. Most clients come in once per week or every other week. Treatment duration depends on your individual needs.

See our Good Faith Estimate and No Surprise Act.

How do I know if I should do group or individual therapy?

Group therapy can be as effective as individual therapy (as reflected in professional literature) so it comes down to what makes you more comfortable. We will work together collaboratively to identify what meets your needs and what you are most comfortable with. You may also choose to be part of group therapy and individual therapy.
